Gable, 88, of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the home. Born October 9, 1923, in Wernersville, he was a son of the late James W. and Eva R. (Noecker) Gable. He was the widower of Dorethea M. (Strine) Gable and was also preceded in death by a brother, Martin H. Gable, and stepson, Robert B. Brandt. A Hershey Foods retiree with 44 years of service, he was a Palmyra School District crossing guard for 17 years. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Palmyra and Chocolate Workers Union Local 464, and a former member of American Legion Post #72, Palmyra Fire Police, and Lebanon County Chiefs Association. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a life member of the Military Order of Purple Heart #1983, Disabled American Veterans #81, and Citizens Fire Company #1, Palmyra. Surviving are his wife, Arlene B. (Bowman) Brandt Gable of Harrisburg; daughters, Karen, wife of David Tankersley of Cleona, and Crystal, wife of Ronald Claar of Grantville; stepson, Jay M., husband of Meg Brandt of Harrisburg; sisters, Eva R. Brown of Palmyra, Esther M. McKee of Conneautville, and Arlene E. Gable of Lebanon; five grandchildren; a step- grandson; two step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church, 20 E. Cherry St., Palmyra. Interment with military honors will be in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville. Viewings will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Buse Funeral Home, 145 N. Grant St., Palmyra, and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
