Groff LEBANON Herbert Gerald "Jerry" Groff, 79, died on Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Hershey Medical Center. Born in Lancaster, on August 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Herbert T., and Catherine Elizabeth Cusky Groff. After graduating in 1950 from Manheim Township High School, Jerry earned a BA from Millersville University and a Master's Degree in English from Temple University. Following teaching stints in Puerto Rico and Spain, he taught English at Lebanon High School for many years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954 where he received 8 medals and 2 bronze stars. He was a Supervisor for the Democratic Party in W. Cornwall Twp.; Supervisor of the Mt. Gretna Heights and past member of the Lebanon Elks, the VFW of Lancaster, PA and American Legion Post #34. He loved fishing, golfing and music.In his retirement years, "Jer the Bear" ("moving fast and going nowhere") was proud President of the Do Nothing Company. Jerry was pre-deceased by his wife Mary Lou and a son, Taric. He is survived by four children, Benjamin Groff, Santa Monica, Calif.; Jessica, wife of Ed Kosoff, Mt. Gretna; Melora, wife of Billie Hartman, Aurora, Colo; and Caitlin, wife of Daniel Warf, Martinsburg,Va. He is also survived by a brother, Thomas E. Groff, Lancaster; four grandchildren, Lucy and Sadie Kosoff and Emma and Josie Hartman; as well as a long-time friend, Dorothy (Dotty) J. Eckert, Leola. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jerry's Life Celebration Funeral Service from the Funeral Home of Fred F. Groff, Inc., 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17603 on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
