Grumbine PALMYRA Charles Albert Grumbine, 81, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at The Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. Charlie was born Wednesday, April 2, 1930, in Palmyra, to the late Martin and Bertha (Nessler) Grumbine. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jane (Light) Grumbine; and a daughter, Beth G. Myers and husband, Gene of Canton, Mich. He was predeceased in 1998 by a son, Keith C. Grumbine. Charlie graduated from Palmyra High School in 1948, West Chester State Teachers College in 1952, and Temple University in 1962 with his master's degree. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict with the 76th Corps of Engineers and then with the reserves. He taught U.S. and world history at Cedar Crest High School. He was a member of Palm Lutheran Church, where he served on church council, various committees, and as head usher, and was Sunday School secretary and a teacher. He also was a member of Annville American Legion Post #559, Palmyra VFW Post #6417, PSEA Retired, and NEA Retired. Charlie enjoyed reading anything related to the Civil War and WWII, visiting Colonial Williamsburg, collecting coins, and watching baseball and hockey. He relished his summer vacations in Ocean City, N.J., with his family. Most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband and father. Family and friends are invited for viewing on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Grand View Memorial Park, 500 N. Weber St., Annville, with the Rev. Dr. John D. Merkel officiating, and full military honors following.
