M. shabodeho@aol.com November 15, 2011, 4:57 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on November 10, 2011 Angela J. Haney CORNWALL Angela Jeanette Whitaker Haney, the beloved wife of the Rev. James M. Haney and the beloved mother of Janella Cooley (William) of Bloomington, Ill., Janette Kohr (Thomas) of Pittsburgh, and Janitta Carithers (Robert) of Seattle, Wash., died on Friday, November 4, 2011, at Cornwall Manor. Angela was born February 15, 1917, in New Woodstock, N.Y., to Rev. Fenelon and Coralie Parsons Whitaker. She married Rev. James M. Haney on October 4, 1940. He predeceased her in 2008. Angela Haney was a graduate of Syracuse University. She chose to be a homemaker and partner with her husband in Christian ministry. Being the daughter and wife of United Methodist clergy, she lived 27 places in her life, including New York, New Jersey, Washington, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Florida. Angela was an elegant, beautiful, gracious, kind, warm, gentle, compassionate, and positive Christian woman. Throughout her life, all who met her were drawn to her with respect and admiration. She had an amazing way of making everyone she met feel special. Her depth of Christian faith and prayerful way of life were an example and inspiration to her family and friends. Angela took delight in her family and was very proud of her eight grandchildren, Rev. Angela Bulhof (Johannes) of Lake Charles, La., Melissa Vrana (Thomas) of Pittsburgh, William Emory Cooley, III (Susie) of Frankfort, Ill., Sean Carithers (Beth) of Richmond, Va., Seth Kohr (Jennifer) of Pittsburgh, Chris Carithers (Monica) of Boulder, Colo., James Cooley (Christina) of San Bruno, Calif., and Melody Angela (Jon) O'Brien of Pittsburgh; and 18 great-grandchildren, Justin, James, and Roger Bulhof, Alyssa, Grace, and Julia Vrana, Will, Sara, and Sam Cooley, Madeleine and Hayes Carithers, Stella and River Carithers, Emory, Ronin, and Rafferty Cooley, and McKenna and Alaina O'Brien. She is survived by two sisters, Faith Boettiger and Hope Vandegriff; brother, Fenelon Whitaker; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Nutt. Angela was the perfect example of a loving nurturing mother and lifelong devoted wife and partner to her husband, James. A minister friend from seminary years wrote, "And you, Angela, have lived up to your name. You have surely been a supportive helpmate and a devoted mother. To you belongs a share in the credit for a fantastic ministry. 'Your children rise up and call you blessed, your husband also and he praises you'- Proverbs 31:28. 'Many women have done excellently but you surpass them all'- Proverbs 31:29." Her legacy is her Christian spirit that continues in all the lives she touched and in many endearing memories. Although she will be deeply missed, Angela's family rejoices that she is with the Lord she loved. She looked forward to joining her beloved husband, James, in Heaven.
