Helmeczi WILMINGTON, DE Helen Adelaide Kapfer Helmeczi died peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 97 and 8 days on Sunday, October 9, 2011, in her residence of the last for years of Gilpin Hall, Wilmington. Formerly of McKeesport, and Duquesne, Helen was born on October 1, 1914, in Duquesne, the daughter of Louis Kapfer and Mary Abeli. She was the widow of Kalman Helmeczi, deceased March 28, 1978, who was a small independent retailer. Helen graduated from Duquesne High School in 1933, was formerly an active member of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Duquesne, and was an avid bowler for many years with the White Oak bowling league in North Versailles Township. She was preceded in death by her parents, her seven siblings, her husband, and her eldest son, Francis K. Helmeczi. Helen is also survived by her sons, Lester D. Helmeczi (married to Karen J. Bickford) of Lebanon, and Albert W. Helmeczi (married to Joann Weidlich) of Lewes, Del. She is survived by five grandchildren, Terru Ruccio, married to Daniel of McKeesport, Kevin Helmeczi, married to Christine Johnson of Zion's View, Keith Helmeczi, married to Christine Gumals of Chesterland, Ohio, Rebecca Schiffer, married to Dr. Herbert of Windber, and Amanda Vaught, married to Joshua, of Hockessin, Del. Helen has seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation with family will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh (Pleasant Hills), with a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in the cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather for a light lunch afterward at First Evangelical Free Church, 4001 University Drive, McKeesport 15132.
