M. shabodeho@aol.com March 11, 2011, 9:38 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on March 9, 2011 Mary Lou Sansone Kelsey LEBANON You start off by pretending You're a dancer with grace You wiggle 'till they're Giggling all over the place And then you get a great big custard pie in the face Make 'em laugh Make 'em laugh Make 'em laugh Anyone who thumbed through these pages, sat in a dark theater or circled around the kitchen table off Walden Road had the pleasure of laughing with Mary Lou Sansone Kelsey, who passed away this Monday evening at the age of 60. Lebanon native Mary Louise Sansone Kelsey was born August 15, 1950, to Arbeyln and Joseph Sansone. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1968. She attended Trinity University as a theater major and graduated from the University of Texas with a Political Science and History Degree in 1973. She returned to Lebanon as a reporter with then family-owned Lebanon Daily News. She later served as the Editorial Page Editor, Film and Theater Critic and eventually found her home for more than 30 years as the weekly humor columnist. Mary Lou was an active member of the Lebanon Community and participated on the board of Lebanon Family Health Services and the Lebanon Country Club. She also was active in the Good Samaritan Hospital Street Fair. She was deeply devoted to her family. In addition to supporting her children in swimming, soccer and a list of numerous activities, she also was a fierce supporter of her husband's professional pursuits. She was an avid traveler to exotic places such as Antarctica, Siberia and the Far East with her mother as her travel companion. Mary Lou had a lifelong passion for theater. She directed her first play at the Lebanon Community Theater at the age of 17. She returned 25 years later and never left. Her love of the stage stemmed back to her days at Brown Ledge Camp, continued on the stages of Trinity University where she met her husband of 40 years, and through her direction of more than two dozen plays and musicals, inspiring the people she worked with and countless audiences. She also was a avid football fan and adored anything pertaining to the University of TexasHook 'em Horns! She loved animals and spent many a Sunday with her dog watching games. She is survived by her husband, John R. Kelsey, III; her children, Benson Wilder Kelsey and Lauren Elizabeth Kelsey; and her sister, Elizabeth Dwyer. She preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters, Ruth Wolfe and Carol Jameson. Her family extends a warm invitation for all who loved Mary Lou to join them for a gathering in her honor held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at her second home, The Lebanon Community Theatre located off of East Maple St. and Theater Drive in Stovers Dam Park.
