M. shabodeho@aol.com December 4, 2011, 10:21 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on November 28, 2011 William L. Koons FRIEDEN MANOR William L. Koons, 85, passed away Sunday, November 27, at his home. Born on May 24, 1926, in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Albert and Verna Heck Koons. He was affiliated with the Suedberg Church of God. William worked as a Miner and then worked in maintainence for various companies. A Pfc. in the Army during WWII, William served with Co K 346th Inf. in GO33WD45, Ardennes and Rhineland. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Award and the Army Occupational Medal. He was a member of the Pine Grove V.F.W. Post 3432. William loved fishing, hunting, repairing things and watching Phillies Baseball. He used to prepare the Pine Grove Little League Field for the games. Preceding him in death was one brother, Lloyd Koons and a nephew Roy Koons. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Leah Becker Koons; his brother Lloyd's children, Darlene Koons, Dennis and wife Rhonda Koons, Bruce Koons, Rita wife of William Jenkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday at 12 Noon with Pastor Terrence Jansma officiating. There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to time of service at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Church of God Cemetery, Suedberg.
