Born on December 7, 1922, in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Wilhelmina Seabold Krause. The last survivor of five brothers and three sisters, Punch graduated from Lebanon High School in 1940. He attended Middlebury College in Vermont while in the service. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 6, 1941. After the United States entered WWII, he served with distinction in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was a Signalman assigned to convoy duty aboard the S.S. Richard Henry Lee, crossing the Atlantic while enduring relentless attacks from German submarines and aircraft. Upon his return he was reassigned to the cruiser U.S.S. Vincennes and set off for action in the Pacific where his ship participated in numerous battles and island bombardments, surviving Kamikaze attacks and enemy action until the war's end. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class and was honorably discharged in 1945. After his return to Lebanon, he married Mary Elizabeth Hartman and they would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year. He worked for the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania for 38 years, retiring as an Outside Facilities Engineer in 1984. He was also a past President of the PA Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Aside from raising eight children, he was very active in the community, volunteering much of his time with the Friendship Fire Company as part of the fire crew and various committees. Punch was a past President, but was best known for his 22 years as company secretary, social event emcee, and for his role in promoting the Friendship Youth Athletic Programs. Punch also served as a South Lebanon Township Supervisor for 28 years, most of them as Chairman of the Board. Most prominent among the achievements during his tenure would be the expansion and development of South Hills Park. Punch loved to picnic there and enjoyed this 'jewel' of the county. Upon his retirement, South Lebanon Township honored him by naming the football field at the park in his memory. Punch was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Cornwall and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, John and wife, Jean of Mechanicsburg, Jean, wife of James Bragg of Jonestown, Susan, wife of Joseph Dunning of New Hope, Joseph and wife, Barbara of Mechanicsburg, Paul, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Lebanon, Stephen and wife, Debra of Lebanon, Milissa, wife of Jeffrey Woodward of Cleona, and Lori, wife of Brendan Renne of New Cumberland.
