M. shabodeho@aol.com October 15, 2011, 9:16 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on October 11, 2011 Floyd R. Leonard PALMYRA Floyd Richard Leonard, 85, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, at the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. Born June 23, 1926, in Annville, he was a son of the late Levi L. and Carrie (Lebo) Leonard. A 1944 graduate of Palmyra Area High School, he attended Lebanon Valley College and Lebanon Business School following his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Floyd retired as the Director of Financial Services of the Evangelical Congregational Church Retirement Village, Myerstown. Prior to his time at the Village, he was the Business Manager at Lehman's Garage, Palmyra for 17 years. A member of First Evangelical Congregational Church, Palmyra, he served as a trustee, steward, class leader, Sunday School teacher and building fund treasurer. He served as the lay delegate to the Eastern Annual Conference and the General Conference of the Evangelical Congregational Church for 38 years. Floyd was an active member of The Gideons International, the Evangelical Congregational Church Historical Society and the Palmyra Senior Citizens. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lois G. (Weiss) Leonard, who he married on January 1, 1950; daughters, Cynthia D., wife of Rev. Robert A. Brown, Marie E., widow of Christopher L. Peters, Sharon M. Leonard, United States Navy Captain, Retired, and Marilyn G., wife of Samuel B. Scales, III; grandchildren, Karen L., wife of Rev. Paul Baughman, David M. Brown, Daryl A., husband of Monica J. Peters, Eric M. Peters, Steven E. Peters, Samuel B. Scales, IV; great-grandchildren, Andrew I. Baughman, Kalaina R. Baughman, Valerie C. Baughman; brother, Mark, husband of Thelma Leonard; and sisters, Lucille, wife of Michael Betz and Mae Smith. He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 W. Main St., Palmyra preceded by a visitation from 1 p.m. Interment, with military honors, will be at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
