Born Elizabeth Jane Hartman on November 19, 1923, she was the only daughter of William and Beulah. An older brother, Richard, was killed tragically when she was 4, leaving her an only child. Betty grew up on South 10th Street in the city of Lebanon, graduating in 1941. She met James Lineaweaver at the Hershey Park Ballroom in Hershey. They were married on August 1, 1942. During WWII, Jim was wounded in France and kept in a hospital in England. While he was away, their first child, James Luther, Jr. was born. Little Jimmy first met his father when he was two, and was followed by Sharon Elizabeth, Daniel Hartman, and Ellen Mary. Raised in an era of silk stockings and swing, Jim and Betty loved to cook, dance and they loved people. In 1950, they opened their first restaurant, Betty's Lunch in Avon. They had found their niche. This business was to be followed by the Seventh Avenue Café in 1973 which they operated until they retired. James died in 1998. Always kind and of a generous nature, Betty will be sorely missed. She was a loving mother and wife whose favorite pastimes were feeding large groups of people, spending time with those she loved, and playing 500 Rummy with her grandchildren. Her door was always open. People could not help but smile when they were around her. Her laughter made everyone happy. She loved children and animals, and enjoyed knitting and shopping. No one could out-shop grandma! She is survived by her children: James, Jr. husband of Yvonne; Sharon, wife of John Sisko; Daniel, husband of Sylvia, all of Lebanon; and Ellen, wife of John King of Watertown, N.Y. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Moravian Church of Lebanon, 1115 Birch Road, where she was a member. All are welcome. Published in Lebanon Daily News on February 15, 2011 This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.6 Kb
