Mader HUMMELSTOWN Vivian Elizabeth Jeffries Mader, 78, formerly of Grantville passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at her home following a lengthy battle with colorectal cancer. Born September 28, 1932, in Linglestown to the late Clarence and Frances (Messick) Jeffries, she was a sister to the late Gerald, Isabelle, and Jeanne. A 1950 graduate of Lower Paxton High School, she was a very active and long-time member of Manada Hill United Methodist Church. Vivian was preceded in death by her loving husband Ben in 2008, and is survived by children Ben, husband of Mary Mader, and Sharon, wife of Dick Schwartz, all of Hummelstown; grandchildren, Ben Mader, Brad, husband of Katie Mader, Rich Schwartz, and Ryan Schwartz;; and great-grandson, Caleb Mader. Serving 35 years as Postmaster in Grantville, East Hanover Township, she retired in 1990 and then worked part time for State Representative Ron Marsico. She was very active in state and national postmaster organizations and in 1983 won National Postmaster of the Year. A member of the Order of Eastern Star, Hershey Chapter 509, she was active in the community with the East Hanover Elementary PTO, East Hanover Lions Club, Grantville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, and East Hanover Autumn Leaves. Vivian served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and volunteered at the Grantville Carnival. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Vivian enjoyed many years as a 'Falcon Friend,' attending numerous sporting events for her children and grandchildren. In recent years, she was a loyal fan of Lebanon Valley College Baseball and enjoyed many years of Penn State Football tailgating. She thoroughly enjoyed family get-togethers plus vacations to Canada and the family beach house in Lewes, Delaware. Vivian's family would like to thank Dr. David Stewart at the Hershey Medical Center for his excellent care, as well as the wonderful, caring staff of Pinnacle Health Hospice. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 165 Firehouse Road, Grantville preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. Interment in the adjoining Grantville Cemetery.
