Mariani, 72, passed away July 19, 2011, at Hi- Desert Continuing Care in Joshua Tree. James was born February 28, 1939, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. His parents were James A.L. Mariani Sr. and Evelyn Mae Nye Mariani of Annville. James grew up in the Annville area and graduated from Annville High class of 1957. After graduation, he moved with his family to Compton, Calif., where James made many friends whom he was still close to until his death. During James' lifetime, he enjoyed the best of California by living and working near the beaches of Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Anaheim and Grover Beach, where he was employed as an orderly. He would later enjoy living near the woods in Burney, where he managed an olive farm shop. He had several friends who all enjoyed many fun times camping in the Mount Shasta area. After getting snowed in one too many times, he decided to move to the warm desert of Joshua Tree, where friends raved of the desert beauty. He worked at Hi-Desert Medical Center in food services for a time before managing the west-end Del Taco in Yucca Valley in the late '80s. Jim's final job before becoming disabled was at Pace (now Sam's Club) in Cathedral City. He loved his jobs and the people he came in contact with. He loved to dance, bowl, play all board games, watch the old movies, play with his pets and party with friends. Jim was also an avid crafter, especially working with plastic canvas. He always enjoyed showing his handiwork at the Christmas craft shows. His sunny disposition and teasing way will be missed by all who knew him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn Mariani; his brother, John Mariani; and his dear friend, Donald Dougal. His survivors are his wife, Mary Rochelle Mariani; his brother, Joseph Mariani; and an aunt, uncles, and cousins in California and Pennsylvania. Rose Mortuary was in charge of his final arrangements and at Jim's request, to ease our pain, no services were held. "I loved you then, I love you still. I always have and I always will," so goodbye my love for now.
