Marks ETTERS James Edward Marks, 81, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 21, 2011, in the Harrisburg Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1930, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Beatrice I. Marks. He was a 1947 graduate of William Penn High School of Harrisburg. He proudly served in the28th Division of the Army during the Korean conflict. James was retired from the American Can Company. He also worked at the York County Area Agency on Aging and the Department of Environmental Resources. Jim was predeceased by his granddaughter, Shannon L. Marks. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Cynthia and their three sons, Jeff of Oberlin, Brad of Mechanicsburg, Greg and his wife, Sherry of Palmyra, Greg's step-sons Casey Criswell, wife Carrie Criswell, their two children, Savannah and Chase, and Jonathan Criswell and his wife Nicol; sister-in-law, MaryLou Lane, her children, Stacy Tice and Douglas Lane, and her grandchildren, Megan, Matthew and Molly. Also numerous cousins and nieces. Jim was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer, a crossword puzzler, was knowledgeable of world history and a movie fan. Upon a request from his wife for some help around the house he would simply reply with a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face, "I'm retired, you know." He would then proceed to gather twigs from trees in the yard. As a war film fan, one of his favorite lines was, "I'm going to get a transfer out of this outfit" when he didn't quite get his way. That was Jamie, the pet name that Cynthia used. With great sorrow, that request has finally been granted. He will be deeply missed by his family, who will take great comfort in knowing that he has transitioned into the arms of the Lord. There will be a private service held for close friends and family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
