Martin, 71, entered into the arms of Jesus at his daughter's home, Pine Grove, on Saturday, May 7, 2011. He was the husband of Verna M. (Groff) Martin, to whom he shared 49 years of marriage. He was born in Clay Township, a son of the late Christian S. and Anna W. (Nolt) Martin. Clayton was a member of Mt. Zion Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference), Lebanon. He was a truck driver for Earl Martin Trucking, East Earl, until his retirement. Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, Shirley, wife of Clair N. Garman of Pine Grove, D. Lamar, husband of Sharon (Hahn) Martin of Elizabethtown, Raymond, husband of Eileen (Newswanger) Martin of Ephrata, Janet, wife of John Oberholtzer Jr. of Womelsdorf, Carolyn, wife of Lowell Martin of Reamstown; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Ivan, husband of Laura (High) Martin of Ephrata, Melvin, husband of Arlene (Hurst) Martin of Seneca Falls, NY, Irvin, husband of Rachel (Hoover) Martin of Shippensburg, Christian Jr., husband of Edna (Shirk) Martin of Hagerstown, Md.; sisters, Elizabeth, wife of Melvin Wenger of Denver, Anna Mae, wife of Clarence Martin of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; and a brother-in-law, Clarence, husband of Erla (Oberholtzer) Horst of Lebanon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Martin; and sister, Mable Horst. A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martindale Mennonite Reception Center, Martindale Rd., Ephrata. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday from the Martindale Mennonite Reception Center, with further services at 9:30 a.m. from Groffdale Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conf.), West Earl Township, with Bishop Paul Nolt, and Ministers Aaron Weaver, Galen Oberholtzer, and Elam Ray Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Arrangements by Stradling Funeral Homes, Inc., Akron/Ephrata.
