"Jim" Mateer, 77, formerly of Mount Joy, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Thursday, December 1, 2011. He was the loving husband of Evelyn A. Weaber Pittinger Mateer, and they observed their 24th wedding anniversary in April 2011. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Norman S. and Mildred A. Mumper Mateer. For over 25 years Jim worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight Lancaster. A veteran, he served in the United Sates Navy and was a member of the Navy Club of U.S. of America. Jim was a member of the Germania Band Club, Manheim, Loyal Order of the Moose, Elizabethtown, Mount Joy American Legion and V.F.W., Friendship Fire Company, Lebanon, Dela-Ches Fishing Association, Lawn, and Elstonville Sportsman's Association, where he enjoyed participating in their annual block shoots. Jim also enjoyed motorcycle riding. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Keith R., husband of Bonnie Kreider Mateer of Manheim; a daughter, Jessica, wife of Steve Englert of Mount Joy; two stepdaughters, Linda, wife of Wayne Bretz, and Lisa, wife of Mitchell Shaw, all of Manheim; a stepson, Kerry, husband of Mirna Pittinger of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; seven step great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dennis, husband of Mary Mateer of Lancaster. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
