Mease CRESTLINE, CA Mr. Lynn Edward Mease, 67, died June 11, 2011, at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, Calif., after a valiant, nearly four-year- long battle against cancer. Born April 4, 1944, and reared in Lebanon, he was the son of Harvey E. Mease and the former Mary A. Parks. Soon after high school graduation, Mr. Mease served his country for 21 years in the United States Marine Corps, including seeing combat in Vietnam. He was an Engineer Equipment Chief for more than eight years, then a Drill Instructor who worked on the Drill Field for four years, an Inspector and Instructor in Salem, Oregon for seven years, before retiring at the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant in 1984. His USMC awards included Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Gold Frame, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Mast, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Certificate of Appreciation Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation Civil Actions Color (First Class), and Rifle Division Bronze Medal. He succeeded in a number of training courses and schools while in the service, and he also completed some college in the civilian world. Not long after his retirement from the military, Mr. Mease joined the Teamsters Union #166 and was a Union Steward and Driver who worked on public works projects including construction of two large dams in California and pipelines in Arizona and California. He pursued this career, which often necessitated extremely long drives and long hours, for another 21 years, retiring in 2009. A former longtime resident of Rialto, Calif., Mr. Mease moved to Crestline full time in 2008 after having maintained a weekend residence for a few years before that. In retirement, he was a regular classroom volunteer at the elementary school where his two youngest grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas, attend. Mr. Mease was known for his enthusiasm for professional sports, his strong work ethic, his handyman skills, his definite opinions, and most importantly, his love for his family, friends, country, and his Lord and Savior. Mr. Mease attended the Lutheran Church in Rialto, and the Baptist Church in Crestline with his family. Some of his favorite conversational expressions were, "Get over it!," "Well, howdy!" "Whatever makes you happy," and "Your perception is your reality." Mr. Mease is survived by his wife, Rena "Ricki" Estvander-Mease; son, Shawn Mease and daughter-in-law, Char Mease of Colorado; his daughter, Melissa Laizure and son-in-law, James of Crestline; stepson, Brent Estvander and his wife, Jackie, of San Bernardino, Calif.; stepdaughter, Judy Long of Victorville, Calif.; grandchildren, Miranda Ewing and husband, Dan, Michael Mease and wife, Leesa, PV2 Kyle Mease, Katie Mease, David Dudley and Sarah Dudley; Joshua Laizure, Nicholas Laizure, great-grandson, Ryan; brother, Neal Thomas Mease, Sr. and his family; cousin, Harry "Butch" Fox and his family, all of Lebanon. Mr. Mease was preceded in death by his parents and by his stepson, Jim Long, Jr. of Victorville.
