Broad St., passed away in the PENN Hospice at Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, on Sunday, December 4, 2011. She was born in Reistville, on September 13, 1930, the daughter of George W. and Florence (Sellers) Kapp. She was the widow of Charles H. Meckley, who predeceased her on December 4, 2002. Mary Lou was also predeceased by her son, Fred D. Strickler (2005). She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Arthur of Newmanstown and Freida Laucks-Fisher of Fleetwood; by her granddaughter, Hilary Laucks Walter (Scott) of Los Angeles, Calif.; and her grandsons, Darby Martin at home, Nathan Laucks (Monica) of Ephrata, and Dr. Jordan Fisher of Orange, Calif. For the past several years Mary Lou's greatest wish was to become a great-grandmother. That wish was granted on May 7, 2011, when her grandson, Nathan, married Monica, and Abigail and Andrew Butrica became part of the Meckley family. Mary Lou is also survived by her sister, Nancy Neiswender of Myerstown; and her brothers, Robert of Myerstown and Allen of Richland. She was predeceased by her brothers, George "Sonny" (Battle of Midway, 1942) and Herbert; and sisters, Caroline and Betty Kapp, and Rachel Urich. MaryLou attended schools in Schaefferstown, Lebanon, and Richland. For many years she was the Cafeteria lady at ELCO High School and later Winthrop Laboratories in Myerstown. For 20 years Mary Lou lived with her husband "Chuck" in Lima, Ohio, where they were active in the Masonic Lodge. They also traveled the United States visiting family and attending Chuck's yearly Army reunions of The 39th Signal Company. Mary Lou also enjoyed being the neighborhood Grandma and babysitter. In 1994 Mary Lou and Chuck retired to Myerstown. Mary Lou's family invites all her friends and family to an Open House in her memory at her home on Wednesday, December 28, from 1 to 7 p.m. Mary Lou donated her brain to the PENN Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research to make scientific advances necessary for establishing a definitive treatment for Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, ALS (Lou Gehrig's) and other disabling neurodegenera-tive disorders.
