Melito PALMYRA Annabel (Ann) Ruth (Vandevere) Melito, 92, of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra, PA, died Sunday, September 11, 2011. Born August 4, 1919, on her grandfather's farm near Fredricksburg, she was the daughter of Verna Caroline (Deck) Vandevere and Rev. Ray Spooner Vandevere, former Superintendent of Bethany Children's Home in Womelsdorf. Surviving are her daughter, Carol A. (Grogan) Meyer, wife of Ralph P. Meyer of Palmyra; two sons, Brian V. Melito of Sellersville, and Joel P. Melito, husband of Shirley (Vann) Melito of Wilmington, N.C.; nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren: Ted, husband of Tammy (Wenner), and father of Cole and Ava; Andy, husband of Keira (Strickler) and father of Owen; Alex Meyer, husband of Carole J. (Roethlein), children and grandchildren of Carol Meyer; Greg, Cristina, and Julia, children of Brian Melito; and Helen, Martin, and Laurel, children of Joel Melito. Husbands, Oliver D. Grogan and Angelo J. Melito, and a son, Aldo R. Melito, preceded her in death. Annabel graduated from Berwick High School, Berwick, in 1936, Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C., in 1940, and did masters work at Drexel University. She retired from her teaching career at Northern Lebanon High School in 1981. She was a member of the Lebanon County Home Economics Association, Lebanon County Educational Honor Society, Lebanon County Association of School Retirees, Past Matron of Conrad Weiser Order of the Eastern Star- Chapter #449 in Womelsdorf, was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, served as a Stephen Minister for Palm Lutheran Church of Palmyra, and was a member of the Myerstown United Church of Christ. A celebration of Annabel's life will be held at the convenience of the family. In death as in life, Ann will be teaching as she has donated her body for research.
