Merkey, 100, entered into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster. She was the widow of Re. Ammon L. Merkey, who died in 1982. She was born near Harrisonburg, Va., on April 22, 1910, the daughter of the late Lewis D. Wampler and Grace Cox Wampler. She lived for most of her life in Mt. Zion, Lebanon County. She enjoyed gardening, needlework - especially quilting, ministering to her family and friends, and was an avid letter writer. She is survived by her daughter, Marianna, wife of Luke Newswanger of Lancaster; grandchildren, Arlene Kobulnicky of Virginia, Lee Newswanger, Lynn Newswanger, and James Newswanger, all of Indiana, and Amy Newswanger of Maryland; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lena Hertzog of Myerstown, Lera Krammes of Lebanon, and Minnie, wife of Mark Summers of Griffin, Ga.; brother, Marvin Wampler, husband of Kitty of Lebanon; and sister-in-law, Almeda Merkey of Myerstown. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, A. Lester Merkey, Jr.; infant daughter, Martha Ellen; brothers, Paul, Mark, and Leonard Wampler; sisters, Sylvia, Connie, and Carrie Wampler; and two great- grandchildren. An evening viewing will be on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Road Church of the Brethren, 2087 Mt. Zion Road, Lebanon, with a viewing at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Wolf's Union Meeting House Cemetery, Lebanon, following the service.
