Miller, Jr., 71, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, May 24, 2011, at the Essa Flory Hospice Center following a brief illness. Born in Hershey, he was the son of the late Edwin B. and Marion J. Barry Miller. Ed was the husband of Gail Frances Artz Miller. Together they celebrated their 48th anniversary on June 9, 2010. He is also survived by his sons, Christopher L. Miller of Lancaster and Jeffrey C. Miller of Lewes, Del.; and his brother, James B., husband of Janie G. Miller of Somerville, Tenn. A graduate of Hershey High School in 1957, he completed his schooling at Millersville State College in 1961. He then taught elementary education for over 30 years primarily at the Donegal School District. As a young man, Ed was an Eagle Scout and had worked as an usher for the Hershey Bears games. His other passion, besides teaching, was that he was a PIAA Official refereeing high school baseball, basketball, soccer, and football, as well as slow and fast pitch softball for over 40 years. Ed was a tour guide for the Amish Farm and House on Lincoln Highway in Lancaster. He enjoyed traveling, especially going to Disney World. He also enjoyed golf, NASCAR racing, country music, and he was an avid Phillies fan. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Life Celebration Service from Fred F. Groff Inc., 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Hospice Chaplain, Jerry J. Griffin, officiating. Interment will be held at Landisville Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fred F. Groff Inc. on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
