Miller, 89, died Sunday, October 16, 2011, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Born July 23, 1922, in Brickerville, he was a son of John and Edna (Ruhl) Miller. Mr. Miller retired from Harrisburg State Hospital. He was a life member of VFW Post 23 and a member of Church of the Good Shepherd. A WWII U.S. Army veteran, he was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient as well as three battle stars. On July 1, 1969, in Harrisburg, he wed the former Andora M. Schamber, who survives along with a son, Gerald L. (Beth) Miller of West Hanover Township; a daughter, Sharon Wilson of Penbrook; a stepson, James Workman of Homer City; a stepdaughter, Julie Umberger of Valrico, Florida; a brother, Richard Miller of Grantville; a sister, June Wood of Raleigh, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth (Crumb) Miller, in 1966; a stepson, Kenneth Workman; a sister, Betty Schamber; and a brother, Ray Miller. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday at the Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Rd., Harrisburg, with Pastor Jason R. Mackey officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of services.
