(Bill) Miller, age 87, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather uncle and friend, entered into the joys of eternity on May 8, 2011, under the care of Hospice and Cornwall Manor Health Center. Bill was born February 13, 1924, at 201 E. High St., in Hummelstown, along with his twin brother, Bob, an older brother, Harry, and younger brothers, Neal and Bert. His parents were Harry K. and Dorothy Suggett Miller. In 1949 he married Dorothy DeBoer Miller, they lived in Millersville, and had four children, Peter (Mary Voytko) Seattle Wash.; the Rev. Nancy, Cape May Courthouse, N.J.; Betsy (the Rev. Dr. Dennis) Keller, Mechanicsburg; and Carolyn (Craig) Patterson, Lancaster. Bill attended Hummelstown High School, graduating in 1941 and in 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps training as a gunner. He served in Okinawa along with his twin brother, flying in a B25 named Panchito. After World War II he attended Bloomsburg State College in flight training, which was discontinued in 1946. He then flew with Eastern Airlines as a purser. Later he went to Hershey Junior College and Lehigh University, graduating in 1950 and continuing in graduate school at Springfield College in Massachusetts. Bill was employed in Boys Work in the YMCA in Lancaster, and later as an insurance adjuster with Farm Bureau, Nationwide Insurance Co and Erie Insurance Co. He started his own business in sales as Bill Miller's-ville Insurance Agency in Millersville, from which he retired in 1983. He was elected as Mayor of Millersville in 1968. In retirement he worked in Marketing at Cornwall Manor and later with Lancaster County Office of Aging. Bill has been a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Millersville and Church of the Good Shepherd in Lebanon, where he served on boards and as Lay Member to Annual Conference, and on Volunteers In Mission to McCurdy School in N.M., and a team to Africa University and several NOMADS volunteer mission teams in the United States. He was an avid traveler to all continents except S. America and camper with his family in all contiguous 48 states plus Alaska and Canada. He was a member of Lions Club in Millersville. Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy and their four children, two of his brothers, Harry in Prescott, Ariz., and Bert in Asheville, N.C. ; and five grandchildren, Jennifer (Galen) Kapp, Rachel Keller, Nicholas, Erin and Alex Patterson. A Memriol service will be held at Cornwall Manor Zerr Chapel on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers a gift may be given in his memory to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) or United Methodist Mission Intern, Rachel Keller, Advance #13105Z c/o Church of the Good Shepherd, 1500 Quentin Rd., Lebanon, PA 17042.
