Minora DUNMORE Joan Kathryn Barry Minora, 82, passed into the arms of the Lord Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at HCC Hospice, Dunmore. Born on July 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Minnie Thorn Barry of Lebanon.She was educated in Lebanon, where she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1946. While there, she was named head cheerleader and voted most popular girl in her class. She worked in the family business, Barry's Food Market, which was the largest grocer in Lebanon at that time. She attended and graduated from Temple University School of Nursing in 1949. While in attendance, she met her future husband, Michael A. Minora, M.D. She worked for the VA Hospital in Lebanon until she married in 1952. Joan continued to work as an office nurse until she began a family in 1954. From that time on she was a dedicated, loving wife and mother, devoting the rest of her life to her family. She was, in every sense of the words patient, kind, and gentle. She was the anchor and heart of her home. She was a member of the Lackawanna Medical Women's Auxiliary and served as President from 1965-1966. Joan was an accomplished pianist and vocalist, an avid card player, as well as an elegant dancer. Her greatest pride and joy were her six children, Dr. Barry A. and wife, Patti of Scranton, Susan Taplin and husband, Nigel of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lisa Corning and husband, Michael of Brookfield, Conn., Patrice Sinkevich and husband, Michael of Dalton, Lauren Green and husband, Jeff of Scranton, and Michele Orsulak and husband, Robert of North Hampton; and a sister, Gloria Gingrich of Palmyra. She is further survived by 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Barry. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ken Sebastianelli, nurses, and staff of both CMC and Moses Taylor Hospitals, with a special thank you to Mary Lou Smith RN, Kim Crinella RN, and the entire staff of HCC Hospice, Dunmore, for their compassion to a wonderful mother and woman. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Immanuel United Methodist Church, 29 E. Maple St., Cleona, 17042. Friends will be received at the church from 11 a.m. to the time of service. Joan will be buried at Grandview Memorial Cemetery, Annville, next to her beloved parents.
