Patches, 81, of the Hostetter House at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, and formerly of 10 Eve Ave., Lebanon, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in her residence. She was the wife of Leroy A. Patches, who died in 2008. Born in Lancaster, on April 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Milton M. and Esther Eckman Hess. Caroline was a member of the Midway Church of the Brethren, Lebanon, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and served with her husband as a lifetime Deacon. She was also a member of Farm Women Group #6, Jonestown, and greatly enjoyed her life on the farm as well as gardening and flowers. Surviving are a son, Dean, husband of Miriam Gress Patches of Lebanon; four daughters, Janice, wife of Gregory Smith of Spring Grove, Martha, wife of John Hess of Lititz, Barbara, wife of Harold Kreider of Lebanon, and Doris, wife of Dennis Shambaugh of Shermansdale; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Milton Hess of Elizabethtown; and two sisters, Helen Diffenderfer of Lancaster and Esther Stoltzfus of New Holland. She was preceded in death by a son, Dale L. Patches; a granddaughter, Erin R. Shambaugh; a brother, Paul Hess; and seven sisters, Ruth Snader, Grace Landis, Minerva Koser, Pearl Hess, Belle Gainer, Betty Kime, and Rose Fink. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14, at 10:30 a.m. from the Midway Church of the Brethren, 13 Evergreen Road, Lebanon. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, Annville, is in charge of arrangements.
