  Eugene Frederick "John" Pence 
  
  PLEASANTON, CA Sgt. Major Eugene Frederick (John) Pence, Retired (U.S. Army), 
  86, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Pleasanton, Calif., with his 
  family by his side. He was born Eugene F. (Bud) Pence on July 17, 1924, in 
  Lebanon, to Raphael and Kathryn Pence. His family resided on 10th Street and 
  included three sisters and five brothers. "Bud", as he was known to his family, 
  played all sports which he continued through most of his military career. One 
  of the highlights of his youth was once warming up the great Satchel Paige. 
  Services will be held in Augusta, Ga., on Friday, April 22, 2011, at 10 a.m. at 
  the Westover Memorial Park Cemetery located in Augusta.
