Rebert, age 70, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 6, 2011, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Originally from Adams County and the son of James R. Rebert and Dorothy E. Hartman, he attended the Scotland School for Veterans' Children, followed by four years of service in the U.S. Navy as a cryptographer on a submarine. Jim attended Shippensburg University, while simultaneously serving in the Reserves, and was called back to active duty in the Cuban Missile Crisis. After graduating from college, Jim worked at the Children's Aid Society in Chambersburg and, after obtaining his Master's Degree in Social Work, became the Director of Children and Youth Services in Lebanon County for the next 26 years. He then served as Director of Children and Youth in York County from 2000 to 2005, when he retired. Jim had many and varied interests during his rich life, and while working full time also served as a police officer for some years, as well as a farrier. Jim was an established English horseback rider, and enjoyed his many years of membership in the Beaufort Hunt Club, serving as Master of Foxhounds from 1992 until his death. Jim was also a dedicated gardener, well-known in the community for his abundant and well- tended gardens. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman, and has passed on a passion for the outdoors to his children. He is survived by his wife, Sandra A. Rebert, his children, Penny Ayers, Scott Rebert, and Chris Rebert, and four grandchildren, as well as loving family in Illinois and North Carolina. Jim will be remembered for his generosity, his vitality, and his enthusiasm for life. A memorial service will be held at the Cocklin Funeral Home, 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg, on Saturday at 3 p.m. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service. There will be no viewing.
