Rudegeair, Jr., 99, formerly of 13 Kindred Place, Annville, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, in the Lebanon Valley Home, Annville. He was the husband of Imogene Harkins Rudegeair, who died in 1979. Born in Lebanon, on November 20, 1911, he was the son of the late Peter, Sr. and Annie Maier Rudegeair. He was a member of St. Paul The Apostle Church, Annville. Prior to living in Annville, he spent virtually all of his life as a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lebanon and attended the original St. Mary's Parochial School. Pete was a 53 year employee of the Lebanon Daily News, having started working there in 1927 as an apprentice newspaper printer. He later served as advertising make-up foreman, composing room foreman, plant superintendent, and occupied the position as production manager of a daily newspaper, two weeklies, and three small commercial shops at the time of his retirement in May 1981. He was a member of Communication Workers of America, formerly International Typographical Union #813, the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Lebanon Assembly, the original Athletic Association of St. Mary's Church when Monsignor Paul Weaver introduced football to Lebanon Catholic High School, and the Lebanon Industrial Management Club of Lebanon since 1950, serving as its president in 1957. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Mary's Church, the Lebanon Country Club for 35 years, and he was an avid golfer and card player. Pete was very active and in charge of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Production Department, the American Newspaper Association Mechanical Group, and locally he was chairman of a committee that was responsible for setting up a printing and publishing department at the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center. He is survived by a son, Peter John "Jack", husband of Marian Rudegeair of Cornwall; a daughter, Shirley Jean, wife of Donald Witmyer of Lititz; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. He was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jo Templin in 1993; brothers, Carl, Raymond, and Richard Rudegeair; a sister, Christine McLaughlin; and a friend, Ellouise Barry. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 28, at 2 p.m. from St. Paul The Apostle Church, 125 S. Spruce St., Annville. Interment will be in Holy Savior Cemetery, Cornwall. No viewing or visitation. Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, Annville, is in charge of arrangements.
