Russell Schneck, 85, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. Born August 12, 1926, in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Clayton E. and Estella M. (Stupp) Schneck. Retired as a music educator and band director from Susquehanna Township High School, he was a 1944 graduate of Lebanon High School, completed his undergraduate work at Lebanon Valley College, and received his master's degree from Penn State University. He played with many local bands including the Lebanon Community Concert Band, Lebanon Big Band, and the Washington Band. A member of the Evangelical Free Church of Hershey, he played clarinet in the church orchestra. Russ was also a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, an active volunteer at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Lucille M. (Emerich) Schneck, who died in 2003, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Verna Robb. Surviving are his wife, Elaine F. Mallough Schneck; sons, Gregory F. Schneck of Landenberg, Rusty, husband of Joy Schneck of Exton, and Scott E., husband of Mary Schneck of Temple; stepdaughter, Dawn E., wife of Keith Garnes of Columbia, Mo.; and grandchildren, Nathan, Meghan, Christopher, Sarah, and Adam Schneck. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at his church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown, preceded by a visitation from 11 a.m. Private interment will be in Kimmerlings Cemetery, Lebanon.
