Betty lived a rich, full life revolving around her faith, family, career as a nurse, and many wonderful friendships. She was born and raised in Bethlehem, daughter of the late Mabel and Francis Rowe. She graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School and Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Allentown. She received her nursing education as a member of the Cadet Corps during WWII. Following nursing school, Betty relocated to Lebanon for employment at the Lebanon VA Hospital. It was shortly after coming to Lebanon that she met and married the late Edward Schreiber. Together Betty and Ed raised three children, Mary Schreiber, Lititz, PA, Jeanne, married to Greg Saunders, Allentown, and the late Edward Schreiber, Lebanon. She cherished being Grandma Betty to her dear granddaughters, Keara and Maggie Saunders; and was Aunt Betty to many nieces and nephews and great and great-great-nieces and nephews. She also had many Godchildren. She is survived by a brother, Thomas Rowe, Delray, Fla., and was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Johnson. Betty was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and also attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was comforted in her last days knowing she received the Sacrament of the Sick as well as the prayers of many people. Being a nurse was an important role for Betty. She retired from the VA Medical Center as a head nurse and also worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital and Cedar Haven. She was very proud of her accomplishment of obtaining a BSN degree from Millersville University while in her 40's. It was very meaningful to her that her son Eddie, several nieces, a great niece, and a nephew followed in her footsteps as nurses. Betty was always quite social and active. She and Ed enjoyed dining out and traveling. She volunteered at the Good Samaritan Hospital and the Red Cross, was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Verbena Club, Friendship Fire Company, Good Samaritan Hospital Alumni Association, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, chapter Alpha Epsilon Master. Her interests included reading, bingo, the Game Show Network, and trips to the casino. She was a great baker, known for her Red Velvet Cake, and she enjoyed baking treats to give to family and friends. In retirement she became a world traveler, going to Japan, England, Turkey, Germany, Italy, and Scotland. She also enjoyed cruises and bus trips with her good friends. Betty was well loved and had a kind, generous spirit. She will be deeply missed. Funeral Mass Thursday 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church, 202 E. Lehman St., Lebanon, 17046.
