Seibert, 92, formerly of Maple Street, Elizabethtown, passed away at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown on January 1, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Lillie Dieffenbach Seibert. A lifelong educator, she started her career as a teacher in the elementary schools of Middletown, Manheim Central, and Allentown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1942 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. In 1951, she was granted a Master's degree in the Psychology of Reading from Temple University. Her first position as a Reading Consultant was in the public schools of Montclair, N.J. After seven years in that position, she accepted a position as a Reading Specialist with the U.S. Army Dependent's Schools in Karlsruhe, Germany, and served there from 1958-1960. Upon her return to the United States she opened a private reading clinic, "Seibert Reading Service," for the remediation of cases of severe reading disability and conducted reading courses in "Speed Reading." She also contracted for consultant work within school districts. In 1963, she accepted a position as elementary reading consultant in the Elizabethtown Area School District, and in 1967 transferred to the Harrisburg School District from which place she retired in 1979. Throughout the 1960's, 70's, and 80's she was actively engaged in church related organizations. She was president of Church Women United, and also of the United Churches of Elizabethtown, in addition to serving within Christ Church United Church United Church of Christ of which she was a lifelong member. Another function of hers was to serve as the publicity chairperson for several oraginizations. This was her role in the United Churches of Elizabethtown for five years after being president, and in the Dauphin County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees from 1985 to 2000. The responsibility of chairing the public relations committee encompassed being the editor of the DCPASR newsletter. She was a Past Matron of the Elizabethtown Chapter No. 407, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Elizabeth Hughes Society. Her family provided funds for a genealogical library housed in the Winters Heritage House Museum, "The Seibert Library and Resource Center." It was dedicated to the memory of Clarence and Lillie Dieffenbach Seibert and given by the remaining of their seven children. In 2003 she wrote a book entitled, "Clarence and Lillie," describing their heritage, their lives, and their progeny. The book was offered as a fund-raiser to non-profit organizations. She contributed a grand piano to Christ Church in honor of their 100th Anniversary of the arrival of her parents in Elizabethtown and their attendance at services in Christ Church in April 1904. A recital memoralizing this event was held on April 25, 2004. The piano and recital were given in memory of Clarence and Lillie (Dieffenbach) Seibert and their descendants. She was the youngest of seven children all of whom preceded her in death, Earl, Mark, Paul, Clarence, Russell, Samuel, and Lillian. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 247 S. Market St., Elizabethtown at 11 a.m. Friends may call on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. An Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
