M. shabodeho@aol.com May 10, 2011, 1:32 am Published in Lebanon Daily News on May 10, 2011 Caroline Shaw WEST CHESTER Caroline Walter Shaw, 100 years of age, was born on October 5, 1910. She died on Sunday May 8, 2011. At the time of her death she was living at The Pocopson Home, West Chester, having previously resided in Palmyra at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home as well as Exton, Villanova, Brookline, Pa., and Leesburg, Fla. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Walter and Marie Templeton Walter. She was predeceased by her husband, John Richard, to whom she was married for 68 years. She is survived by her two children, John, Jr. and his wife, Peggy of Eagle, and Marcia Adams of Louisville, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great- grandchildren. Caroline was a homemaker who raised her children in a loving and caring home. During World War II she worked in an electronics firm in Havertown, and at the A&P in Brookline. She was a walker and walked at least 3 miles a day until she was 97. She actually completed a 13.5 mile Walkathon in Palmyra at the age of 92 and did not come in last. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many clothes for herself and her husband John. Caroline was also a marvelous cook and known for her fabulous pies and "Sticky Buns". She was a wonderful hostess in every community in which she lived. Caroline instilled in her family the fact that giving back is an important part of life and that to volunteer your time and talent is the way one should live. She was a member of First Methodist Church, Palmyra, where she attended regularly before relocating to Chester County. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to serve the family with the arrangements.
