Shay, Sr., 85, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn J. (Ruhl) Shay. Born in Lebanon, on October 30, 1925, William was the son of the late Fred W. and Helen (Barry) Shay. He was the owner/operator of Shay's Vending. He was a 1943 graduate of Lebanon High School. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Quentin Riding Club, Maennerchor Club, Rescue Fire Co., Friendship Fire Co. and Knights of Columbus council #2870. He was an avid golfer and he was a life time member of the Elks Club and a charter member of the Navy Club and Pa. Amusement Machines and Music Association. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William J., Jr., husband of Cindy Shay of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Nathan R., husband of Dr. Chelcie Costabile Alleman, William J. Shay III, Samantha L. Shay; a sister, Dorothy M. Shay of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred G. Shay and a sister, Betty Shay Schlegel. Funeral Mass Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary's Church, 2 N. 8th St., Lebanon, 17046. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery with full military honors. Viewing hours Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Lebanon Catholic School. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
