Smith, 91, of 8 Edward Ave., died Thursday, October 13, 2011, in ManorCare Health Services, Lebanon. He was the husband of the late Gladys Frew Smith. Born in Annville, on December 13, 1919, he was the son of the late Harry and Wilamena Long Smith. He formerly worked for Sowers Printing, Lebanon, was the former owner of J.R. Smith Furniture Store on 9th St., Lebanon, and former owner of Gilbert's Auction Room, Lebanon. His last place of employment was at Olmstead Air Force Base, Middletown, where he worked as a truck driver and in the printing department. James was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, a 1938 graduate of Milton Hershey High School, and held memberships with the Annville American Legion, Lebanon Elks, past president of the Lebanon Eagles, the Friendship Fire Company, and the Milton Hershey Alumni Association. Surviving are an adopted son, Daniel F. Smith; a companion, June Bruder of Lebanon; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Marlin, David, and Charles Smith; and two sisters, Margaret Ospeck and Adeline Rhoads. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at 11:30 a.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
