Smith, 72, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, in Homeland Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 30, 1938, in Fredericksburg, to the late Paul M. and Toletha E. (Krissinger) Smith. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School Class of 1956 and was a United States Navy Veteran. Ron was an Electrical Systems Design Engineer and retired as the Principal of the Gatter & Diehl Consulting Engineers Firm. He was a member of CrossPoint United Methodist Church (formerly Colonial Park United Methodist Church), Harrisburg, and was a former member and past president of the Allison Hill Lions Club. Ron enjoyed dirt track racing, traveling, Penn State football, watching his grandchildren participate in sports, and vacationing with his family on the Outer Banks, N.C., and at his condo in Surfside, S.C. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Eileen (Heller) Smith; his son, Kurt R. Smith and his wife, Pamela S. of East Pennsboro Township; his daughter, Deanna S. Hobbs and her husband, Timothy A. of Lower Paxton Township; four grandchildren, Jordan N. Smith, Timothy A. Hobbs, II, Drew A. Hobbs, and Austin A. Hobbs; his aunt, Velma Klohr of Lebanon; his uncle, Verling Krissinger of Florida; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gail and Jack Wilds of Lebanon; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorna and Larry Everhart of Fanwood, N.J.; and the beloved Christmas Tree Angel of 50 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Homeland Center for the outstanding care that they gave to Ron. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011, in CrossPoint United Methodist Church, 430 Colonial Road, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Dave Biser officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday in the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Hetrick-Bitner Funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ron's honor may be made to Homeland Center, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
