Snavely Sr. JONESTOWN Iren Light Snavely, Sr., 78, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at his home. He was the husband of Jean E. Snavely nee Smith, and on April 11, 2011, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Born in Cleona, on June 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Lester A. and Barbara Jane Light Snavely. He retired in 1986 after 28 years as the owner and operator of the former Snavely's Food Town Market in Jonestown, now BG's. He was a member of the Kochenderfer's United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, was the Lay Leader, and a member of the Administrative Board. For several years he catered their church dinners and also sang in the church choir. He and his wife traveled extensively on World Vision tours, visiting Africa, South America, the Far East, and Hawaii several times. After the Vietnam Conflict, he sponsored two South Vietnamese veterans. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was well known for his cooking and baking, often shared with his neighbors. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. Iren L. Snavely, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen Donovan-Snavely of Philadelphia; brother, Jay Snavely of Lebanon; grandchildren, James Snavely, Iren Michael Snavely, and Meghan E. Snavely-Farr; and great-grandchildren, Julia Farr and Roxana Snavely. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Snavely. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 72 and Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown. Viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be at the Wenger's Cemetery, Jonestown.
