  Luther C. Soliday 
   
  LEBANON Luther C. Soliday, 84, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at his 
  home. He was the husband of Betty L. Gettle Soliday, with whom he celebrated 
  their 60th wedding anniversary on November 4, 2010. He was born in Union Twp., 
  on November 13, 1926, and was the son of the late Arthur and Bertha Mease 
  Soliday. He retired in 1987 from Indiantown Gap, where he had worked in 
  maintenance. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, and he attended the 
  former Lebanon Valley Business College. Luther was a member of the Trinity 
  United Methodist Church, Lickdale, the Lickdale Fire Co., and the Pine Grove 
  American Legion. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed baseball, especially the 
  Detroit Tigers. He was a pitcher, and in 1948 he signed with the Brooklyn 
  Dodgers for spring training. He also pitched for the U.S. Air Force in 
  Randolph, Texas, and for the Fredericksburg Chicks. In addition to his wife, he 
  is survived by his daughters, Bridget G., wife of Scott Mellinger of 
  Womelsdorf, and Dawn B., wife of Randy Stuart of Palmyra; grandchildren, Steven 
  A. Mellinger and Kevin J. Mellinger; stepgrandchildren, Breanna Stuart and 
  McKenzie Stuart; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, 
  Venora H. Elwell. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at 
  the Trinity United Methodist Church, 98 Fisher Ave., Jonestown. Viewing will be 
  held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military 
  honors will follow at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
