"Gummy" Sweigart, 82, died on Monday, November 14, 2011, in Manheim. Gummy was the loving husband of Gloria M. Lerch Sweigart and they observed their 58th wedding anniversary in June of this year. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Edna Hoover Sweigart. For 29 years Gummy worked as a road supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He also was the owner and operator of the family farm in Rapho Township, where he was well known for his butchering service for game animals during hunting seasons. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Lester's memberships included: Manheim Masonic Lodge, Harrisburg Consistory, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Manheim American Legion, Fire Companies from Lawn, Mount Joy, Mastersonville, Unified Sportsman of PA and the National Rifle Association. An avid hunter and fisherman he was one of the first people to become a member of the Elstonville Sportsman's Association. Gummy enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a Dale Earnhardt fan. Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Patsy L. Heistand of Manheim; a son, James L. husband of Pauline Kahley Sweigart of Manheim; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and a brother, George "Hen" Sweigart of Manheim. Preceding him in death is a sister, Mamie Snyder; and a brother, Frank "Bill" Sweigart. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Interment is in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
