"Pat" Tierney Jr., 79, formerly of Hershey, died in his home on Thursday, January 27, 2011. Pat was born on July 22, 1931, in Philadelphia, the son of the late Dr. Francis Patrick and Margaret (McKee) Tierney. He attended LaSalle University, and then served three years in the U.S. Navy Air Division, where he was an accountant. In 1953 he enrolled in the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Ill., and graduated in 1957 to practice Chiropractic and Holistic Health Medicine for 53 years. He first began practicing medicine in Haddonfield, N.J., then moved his office to Hershey, and later to his home office in Hummelstown. He was a former religious education teacher to Milton Hershey School boys, a Eucharistic Minister, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a devout member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Hershey. He is survived by his adoring wife of 53 years, Ruth Marie (Tushup) Tierney; daughters, Mary Catherine Tierney and Margi Leiss and husband, Fred of Hummelstown; sons, Francis Patrick Tierney, III and wife, Tanya of Heathsville, Va., Dr. Michael of Hummelstown, Dr. Matthew and wife, Michelle of Las Cruces, N.M., and Richard and Veronica of Chester Springs; grandchildren, Christopher and Laura Cordaro, Katherine (Leiss) Szeles, Erick and Kevin Leiss, Michael and Tyler Tucker, and Sean Tierney, Smitty Lee, and Rebecca Henry, Tina Morton, Sheri Harlow, and Julie Davison; great- grandchildren, Brian and Caroline Szeles, Ashlyn Harlow, Elijah and Ethan Davison, Cayden Benson, and Connor and Evangeline Morton. A viewing will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory of Hershey. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 5:45. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Hershey. Interment will follow in the Hershey Cemetery.
