Umberger, 97, of The Lebanon Valley Home, formerly of South Prince St., Palmyra, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born November 10, 1914, in Rockingham County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter A. and Mollie V. (Burkholder) Custer. Retired from Hershey Chocolate Corporation, she was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Grantville, where she had taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women's Guild and choir. She was a member of Chocolate Workers Union Local 464 and a former member of the Sojourners Club, Hershey. The widow of Jonas A. Umberger, who died July 4, 2004, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Smith; great-granddaughter, Stacey Dell; five brothers; and a sister. Surviving are her children, Carl R., husband of Peg Umberger of Palmyra, Barbara A., wife of Kenneth Smith of Annville, and Bonnie K., wife of Chuck Saint Sing of Annville; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2011, at her church, 117 N. Faith Road, Grantville, preceded by a viewing from 1 p.m. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
