Wentling SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA The Reverend Russell Clarence Wentling, 78, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass., after a brief illness related to his battle with bladder cancer. Surviving him are his wife of 56 years, Alice (Flannery) Wentling; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Karen Wentling of New York; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Nancy Wentling of Foxborough, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Charles and Kathy (Wentling) Walker of Morgantown; daughter, Betty Jeanne Wentling of Reading; 11 grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers. Born the seventh child of Clarence and Jennie (Bohn) Wentling, on February 5, 1933, and reared in Ono, The Rev. Wentling was a graduate of Jonestown (PA) High School and The King's College of New York, where he met Alice Flannery. They were married on January 29, 1955, in Tonawanda, N.Y. The Rev. Wentling earned degrees from Dallas (TX) Theological Seminary, Evangelical Seminary in Myerstown, and Princeton Seminary in Princeton, N.J. He was ordained into the Evangelical United Brethren denomination in 1964 and served churches throughout Central and Eastern Pennsylvania, first in the Evangelical United Brethren denomination and then the United Methodist church for more than 40 years. Though he retired to Cape Cod after his fulltime pastoral service had concluded, The Rev. Wentling remained very active in the Gospel ministry, serving several churches scattered throughout the Central and Eastern U.S. as interim pastor. He concluded his most recent interim pastorate in June 2010. A lifelong correspondent and writer, he also served on boards closely related to his passion and ministry: The Board of Mission of the Good News Movement in the United Methodist Church, the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the U.M. Church, and the Board of Trustees of The King's College. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 72 and Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Ono United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be at the Salem Evangelcal Cemetery, Ono.
