M. shabodeho@aol.com March 31, 2011, 7:51 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on March 31, 2011 William Wertz ANNVILLE William Wertz, 87, of Lebanon Valley Home, Annville, and formerly of Lebanon, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at Hershey Medical Center. Born March 10, 1924, in Spencer, Nebraska, he was the son of the late William H. and Nora R. Wise Wertz. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Seiger Wertz and his second wife, Lucille Stefl Wertz. Bill was a 1942 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 1950 graduate of Lebanon Valley College. He had served in the United States Navy during WWII, serving on the Land Craft Infantry USS464 in the Pacific Theatre. Bill was proprietor of the Karmelkorn Shop in downtown Lebanon for 36 years, later changing the name to Wertz Candies, Inc. and retired in 1986. Bill was the first president of the Cedar Crest Booster Club. He enjoyed and loved animals, gardening, and was a University of Nebraska football fan. He enjoyed going to breakfast with friends and fellow Cumberland Street merchants, especially to the former Brooks House. Surviving are 3 sons, William H. of Campbelltown, Richard A., husband of Carla Pielmeier Wertz and Charles W., all of Lebanon; a daughter, Jean L., wife of Robert Zaun of Fredericksburg; step son, Larry Stefl, step daughter Pam, wife of John Toke, all of Oakland, CA.; and a niece and a nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Zimmerman. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bill's memorial service from Ruffner-Porterfield Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, 890 Isabel Dr., (next to Quentin Circle), Lebanon on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10 AM with Rev. H. James Tanner officiating. Interment will be held in the Grand View Memorial Park, Annville. Friends will be received at the funeral home 9 to 10 AM on Saturday.
