Witman HUGHESVILLE Charles Levi "Bud" Witman, 85, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2011, at the home of his daughter in Hughesville, PA. He was born March 29, 1926, to the late Charles P. Witman and Gertrude D. Seabold Witman in Lebanon. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Mose" Boger Witman who passed away February 24, 2008. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary February 28, 2008. Bud graduated from Lebanon High School in 1943 where he excelled in football, baseball, and track. He played semi-pro football with the Cornwall Athletic Club from 1948 to 1950. He was a World War II Naval Veteran serving as an aviation machinist mate third class hydraulic specialist. Bud was a former member of the Palmyra Police Department where he served as Assistant Chief of Police. Bud was employed by the County of Lebanon as the head of the Domestic Relations Office and retired in 1988 as the Chief of the Adult and Juvenile Probation Office. He was a member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, Palmyra and also attended Mapleton Community Church, Hughesville. He was a Mason serving 51 years with the Harrisburg, Consistory, a member of the Mt. Lebanon Lodge #226, F.&A.M., Tall Cedars of Lebanon with the Quittapahilla Forest #25, and a 62 year member of the Palmyra American Legion Post 72. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Witman Berman, wife of Ronald Berman, Palmyra and Judy Witman Rast, wife of Wolfgang "Butch" Rast, Hughesville. Bud was known as "Pappaw" by his grandchildren, Douglas L. Berman and wife Kristin, York, and Jody Berman Forte and husband Robert, Landisville; step-grandsons, Erik Rast and wife Tara, Conn., and Lee Rast and wife Jennifer, Ga. He has three great-granddaughters, Sarah and Ashley Berman and Lauren Forte. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Thelma Boger and Claudia A. Witman; and many nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by brothers, John A. Witman, Richard H. Witman, and sisters, Anna M. Brenner and Hilda M. Youngman. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 25, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 N. Railroad St., Palmyra, PA 17078, with the Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. Friends and family are invited for viewing from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment with full military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to National Parkinson's Foundation, Gift Processing Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra.
