Wright, 89, formerly of Palmyra died Sunday, May 8, 2011, in Columbia Cottage, Palmyra. Born December 6, 1921, in Palmyra, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Susan (Kitzmiller) Jefferies and was also preceded in death by two sisters. Retired from the VA Medical Center, Lebanon with 22 years of service, she was a graduate of Palmyra High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, being the first female from the midstate to enlist on September 21, 1942. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, Palmyra, a member and past President of the Blue Mountain WAVES, past President of the Palmyra Rotaryanns and Palmyra Women's Club, secretary for the 200th and 250th Palmyra Celebrations, and volunteered at the Hershey Medical Center. Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Walter L. "Bud" Wright; children, Jeffrey, husband of Lenore Wright of Jackson, Wyoming and Susan, wife of Robert Booth of Hershey; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Buse Funeral Home, 145 N. Grant St., Palmyra, preceded by a visitation from 9:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
