Zimmerman NEW YORK Edward Albert Zimmerman passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Beth Israel Hospital in New York, N.Y. Edward was born to Warren and Louella Zimmerman on August 18, 1936, in Fredericksburg. He was preceded in death by both his parents and a brother, Robert Zimmerman. Edward also has brothers, James and Frederick Zimmerman, and sisters, Thelma Shearer, Mary Jane Sattazahn and Patricia Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman was a graduate of Northern Lebanon High School in 1954. He was extremely well known for his vocal work throughout the county and state. He was a soloist with the Pennsylvania All- State Chorus for three consecutive years while in High School, and also won Superior Ratings at the State Forensic Contests. Ed attended Mannes College of Music in New York City, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Ed appeared in many Broadway Productions like: 'Funny Girl' with Barbara Streisand, 'Call Me Madam' with Ethel Merman, 'Bye Bye Birdie', 'Madam Butterfly', and many other shows. Then he joined the New York City Opera and spent 46 years singing with the opera until his retirement in May of 2010. Folks in Fredericksburg remember him as the singing newspaper boy, while friends in New York think fondly of him as the consummate professional with a fantastic voice. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Burial will be at the discretion of his family in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.
