Zimmerman Jr., 89, died on Thursday, January 27, 2011, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Grace E. Buch Zimmerman . Born in Greencastle, on August 4, 1921, he was the son of the late John E. and Mary E. Gift Zimmerman Sr. John was a fuel truck driver for Agway for 22 years until he retired. He then drove cars for the Manheim Auto Auction for 17 years. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, participating in 27 flying missions over Europe as a B-17 left wing gunner on the Millie K the flying fortress. For his brave actions he received the EAME service medal with three bronze stars, good conduct medal, air medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Road Church of the Brethren and Trinity United Methodist Church in Lickdale. John was a lifetime member of the NRA, a past member of the Legion Post 386 Hershey, an avid watcher of WWE, and a great fan of NASCAR and the Phillies. He loved to spend time with his family and always loved to tell a joke. He loved to ride his BMW motorcycle until a motorcycle accident occurred. He was there for people and had a servant's heart. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John W. Zimmerman and wife, Sharon of Middletown; a daughter, Debra A., wife of Kenneth Yeagley of Lebanon; a brother, George Zimmerman and wife, Sandra of Hershey; two sisters, Pearl Zimmerman of Tucson, Ariz., and Lillian Seaman of Grantville; three grandchildren, Amber L., wife of Justin Seasholtz of Sanford, N.C., Chad Yeagley and wife, Barbara, and Brett Yeagley and wife, Amber of Myerstown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Garrison, and one grandson, Justin H. Zimmerman. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Kreamer and Lum Funeral Home, Rt. 72 and Campmeeting Road, Jonestown. Interment with full military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery E. Hanover Twp. Public visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
