Joy, after a brief illness. Born on December 7, 1925, in Outwood, he was the fourth child of the late J. Harrison and Daisy M. Stager Adams, and was the last member of his immediate family. A 1943 graduate of Pine Grove High School, he was trained as a welder at Sun Ship Yards. Carl was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. After a 32 year career with Bethlehem Steel Corp., he spent 35 years in real estate for Ulrich Professionals in Cleona, actively working until his final illness. Carl was an active lifelong member of the Suedberg Church of God, where he had served in various leadership roles for more than 65 years. The family home was three doors away from the church and the connection was constant. Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing all his life and spent many happy days in the Pennsylvania mountains or alongside its ponds. Being the son of a railroad man, he had a lifelong fascination for trains and train lore, and was frequently consulted about the history of the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad, which used to be the "Main Street" of Outwood. In semi-retirement, he and Betty Ann made many friends and enjoyed many adventures traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. Preceding him in death were his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth A. "Betty Ann" Cassel Adams, on March 9, 2009; a brother, Alvin A.; two sisters, Hilda C. Felty and Harvena B. Ludwig. Surviving are daughter, Jane, wife of Ed Shirk; son, John; two grandchildren, Ryan and wife, Amanda, and Rebecca and husband, Bill; one great-granddaughter, Madison; and many friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held at Suedberg Church of God, on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Terrence Jansma officiating. There will be a viewing on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Suedberg Church of God, Suedberg Road, Pine Grove. Interment will follow in the Church of God Cemetery. The family would prefer in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to either the Suedberg Church of God, Pine Grove, Pa.; or to the Hospice & Community Care, Lancaster, Pa., in his memory. The H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements. Carl's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical and support staff of Ephrata Community Hospital and Lancaster Rehab. Hospital for their constant compassinate care; to Hospice & Community Care, for allowing our loved one to depart in peace with dignity; and to the many dear family, friends, and clergy for their love, support, and prayerful visits.
