Born September 21, 1935, in Palmyra, he was a son of the late Herman L. and Myra K. (Bucher) Bashore. A 1953 graduate of Hershey High School, he retired from General Elevator Company, Harrisburg with 33 years of service. A member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Palmyra Sportsmens Association, National Rifle Association, Pennsylvania Forester Association, Dauphin County Woodland Owners Association and the Rocky Mountain Elk Association, he attended the Hershey Evangelical Free Church. He was a member and formerly on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife of 53 years Loretta F. (Hartman) Bashore; children, Jana L., wife of Thomas Sukeena of Palmyra, Crystal K. Bashore of Lebanon, Kevyn M. Bashore of Hummelstown and Brandon R., husband of Laura Bashore of Hummelstown; siblings, Anna Groff of Palmyra, Donald, husband of Delores Bashore of Palmyra and Harold, husband of Lynda Bashore of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Ryan M., husband of Rahna Pizzingrilli of Fort Polk, Louisiana, Cole J. Pizzingrilli of Palmyra and Cameron M. Bashore of Hummelstown; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brandon and Isabella Pizzingrilli, all of Fort Polk, Louisiana. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 W. Main St., Palmyra. Viewings will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Buse Funeral Home, 2 E. Main St., Hummelstown and 12 noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, Hershey. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to establish The Mel Bashore Nature Preserve, to honor him and maintain the land he loved so much. Contributions can be sent to The Mel Bashore Memorial Fund, 701 S. 80th St., Swatara, PA 17111.
