M. shabodeho@aol.com March 17, 2012, 4:46 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on March 16, 2012 Ruth Ann Bell PALMYRA Ruth Ann Bell, 94, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. Born October 16, 1917, in Hanoverdale, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Agnes (Schaffner) Umberger and was also preceded in death by husband, Ammon on July 28, 2008; son, Karl Bell; brother, Austin Umberger; and sister, Marian Balmer. A graduate of Hershey High School and the Central Penn Business School, she served as the first secretary of the Hershey High School for 10 years. She married Ammon E. "Butch" Bell on January 20, 1946, and was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family business, Bell's Meat Market. A member of Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren. she was actively involved as a bookkeeper, cook, and Sunday School teacher, and served as the bookkeeper for the Hanoverdale Cemetery Association for many, many years. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards and games with her family and friends. Surviving Ruth are her daughter, Elaine Dugan of Aurora, Ill.; sons, Donald Bell, husband of Sandy of Hummelstown, and Jack Bell, husband of Sheri of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Melissa Dugan-Kim, Ryan Dugan, Adam Bell, Brad Bell, and Matthew Bell; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Kim. A viewing will be held Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, 577 Hershey Road, Hummelstown. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with interment at Hanoverdale Cemetery.
