Bowman, 82, of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in the home of his son Larry, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Esther Brandt Bowman with whom he celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary this past December. Born in Myerstown on September 19, 1929, he was the son of the late Claflin L. and Ruth Royer Bowman. In 1967 he founded G.F. Bowman, Inc., in Cleona and served as president until 1984. He then turned the operation over to his son Larry, who in turn passed it on to his son Brad and daughter Jamie in 2009, making it a third generation business. A U.S. Army Veteran of Korea, George graduated from Myerstown High School in 1947 and was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Cleona. A member of the Annville-Cleona Kiwanis Club since 1960, George served as president for a year, as well as a president of the Refrigeration Services Engineers Society. George was a member of the Annville American Legion Post 559, the Lebanon Electrical Association, Blue Mountain Snowmobile Association, and the Pine Pauper Hunting Camp in Woolrich, PA. He was the founder of the Silver Fox Lodge and the Fawn Run Family Camp. George was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time in the mountains. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughters, Karen Reed of Ballwin, Missouri, Ayla Rose of Nevada City, California, and Lorraine, wife of Jeffrey Witmeyer of Palmyra, and son Larry D, husband of Brenda Reitz Bowman of Lebanon. His living siblings are Mary Jane wife of V. Carl Gacono of Annville, John Bowman of Pine Grove, and Ann Bowman of Stuart, Florida. He also has nine grandchildren: Tracy Weaks, Jonathan Reed, Aaron Reed, Rigel Rother, Tara Rother, Jamie Yocum, Bradley Bowman, and Kimberlee and Cassidy Bowman. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Harold, and Robert Bowman, his sister Helen Bowman, as well as his step-mother Edith Bowman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel United Methodist Church, 29 E. Maple Street, Cleona. Interment will be with Full Military Honors at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Myerstown. Viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville and also on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service at the Church.
