Burkhart, 68, died Thursday, January 26, 2012, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was awaiting a lung transplant. He was the husband of Carol M. (Leisey) Burkhart. They were married on April 11, 1964, and celebrated 47 years of marriage. Born in Strausstown, he was the son of the late Paul R. and Daisy G. (Shupp) Burkhart. Oliver was a business owner, owning and operating Burkhart Refractory Installation, Inc., Bethel, since 1984. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Free Church, Strausstown. Oliver was also a member of the Frystown Lions Club, member of the AOPA - Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and a life member of the National Rifle Association. Oliver was an instrument rated pilot. He enjoyed flying and traveling while spending time with his family. He was an avid marksman and big game hunter. Oliver also loved the outdoors, enjoyed hiking, ATV's, horseback riding, water skiing, snow skiing, and motorcycling. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Angela K. (Burkhart), wife of Frank Jordan of Bethel; three sons, Steven P. Burkhart and his wife, Teresa of Bethel, Timothy C. Burkhart, and Keith A. Burkhart, both of Pine Grove; and four grandchildren, Alyssa and Megan Jordan, and Grant and Brooke Burkhart. Also surviving are one brother, Harold P. Burkhart and his wife, Marilyn of Bernville; and one sister, Dorothy A. (Burkhart), wife of Jack Wertz of Shoemakersville. He was predeceased by a sister, Linda L. (Burkhart) Albers, significant other of Bill Harrison. Services will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Christ Evangelical Free Church, 8477 Route 183, Bethel 19507. Burial will be in Strausstown Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the church Tuesday 6:30 to 9 p.m. There will not be a viewing on Wednesday. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg, is in charge of arrangements.
